Choir 2013

“Listen to your conductor. Respect yourself and the audience. Then winning is the cherry on top." More than a quote, but an ingredient to making our Umtata High School Choir a winning recipe. With the guidance of the conductor, Ms. Qina, the choir is able to display the 'beautiful noise' that is singing. This choir is well recognised throughout the province and even the country.

The choir has achieved many accolades and achievements as solos, duet's, quartet's, sextet's, female voice and a choir as a whole. The renditions include Au fond du temple saint, a duet comprising of Tenor and Baritone voices. This classical peace was sang by Ongama Mhlontlo and Phila Tantsi and won Gold in the District Competitions. I feel pretty, this rendition was performed by the choir female voice, conducted by Ms. Qina it has received many accolades including silver in the choir's most recent trip to East London for more competitions.

More recently the choir has travelled to East London to compete in the Port Rex Lion Eisteddfod Choir Competitions. A tour which took four days which also included sightseeing. Since it was their first time in these competitions, expectations were uncertain as to what would unfold. the choir was able to bring back a number of gold and silver and a special mention from the judges was given to our very own Ongama Mhlontlo for his rendition of 'Caro Mio Bel' which blew away the crowd.

Their discipline and dedication has paid off. It shows that this extra-mural has shown the talents of our students and brightened the lives of many.
