Welcome to Umtata High School, Where Excellence is a Tradition
Welcome to Umtata High School,
Founded in 1889, Umtata High School has a long-standing tradition of excellence in education. Situated in the heart of Mthatha’s central business district in the Eastern Cape, the school is bordered by Transkei Primary School on one side and the renowned Nelson Mandela Museum on the other, with the Viljoen Hostel for UHS students located just across the N2 highway. Our school colours—white, black, gold, and dark green—are proudly represented in our uniform and school regalia.
At Umtata High School, we believe education is about more than academic success; it's about nurturing the whole child. For over thirteen decades, we have been dedicated to creating a learning environment where learners can grow intellectually, socially, and emotionally. Our committed staff work tirelessly to maintain our legacy of excellence while embracing innovative teaching practices. We take great pride in our 98% matric pass rate and in the achievements of our alumni who continue to thrive at universities both locally and abroad.
Umtata High School continues to stand as a pillar of progress and possibility—where a strong foundation, dedicated teaching, and a future-focused vision empower learners to reach their full potential.
Sincerely,
Mr. S. Abraham
Principal
